Why has the Church forgotten about the Great Commission?

Hello D1 Nation,

I was recently at a Chick-fil-A sharing a cup of coffee with Toby Clem and we happened to have our bibles open.  The very nice server came up and asked to refill our coffee cups.  She then asked if we were doing a bible study.  We looked at each-other and said kind of.   We were actually going over some planned changes to D1 and an upcoming small group that we’ll be leading for our Church.  We then explained the D1 concept and what the ministry is all about.  She was very excited and asked questions about it and said she would check us out online (I hope you’re reading this).  I then asked her if i could ask her a couple of questions which she was more than happy to answer.

Me: Are you a Christian?  Her: Yes

Me: Have your ever heard of the Great Commission?  Her:  No, I haven’t.

Me: Did you know that you have a calling on your life that Christ has given you?  Her: What do you mean?

It was an amazing exchange that only lasted about 1 minute but it highlighted something that is more common place than it should be.  Most of the Churches aren’t talking about what Christ has asked us to do.  When is the last time you heard the word Disciple come from the pulpit?  We seem to be simply overlooking the last thing Christ said on this earth to his 12 disciples.  He gave us a very clear directive, he gave us more than that, He gave us the Great Commission in Mathew 28:16-20.

We here at D1 hope that you’ll join us in simply raising awareness about the calling that Christ has placed on our lives.  We weren’t just saved, we were saved for a purpose!

Thoughts?
